Frank's Story

Life After finishing high school (Walter L. Cohen) I joined the US Air Force (USAF) to get out of the city and provide for a better life. Many of my classmates and close friends attended college straight away, but I did not believe that was for me at the time. When basic training (boot camp) was completed, I started advanced training to become a Medical Laboratory Technician. After completing my training to become a MLT, my first permanent base of assignment was Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus MS. While there, I married someone that I knew from Woodson and my daughter was born. During my time in the USAF I lived in Texas (San Antonio & Wichita Falls), Illinois (Bellville), and California (San Bernardino) and Mississippi (Columbus & Biloxi), also means that I traveled across most of the US. In addition I lived in Turkey (1 yr), United Kingdom (1 ½ yr), and Greece (2 yrs). I had the opportunity to visit France, Germany (several times), Italy, Korea and Spain. While stationed in England (i.e., UK) my son was born (American Citizen born Abroad) and we visited France. Normally American Children born there held Dual Citizenship and when they became of legal age they had to determine if they would be a US citizen or an English Subject. Luckily, shortly before my sons birth the rules were changed and he did not have to go through that. When I returned to the US from England we were transferred to Kessler AFB in Biloxi MS. I volunteered for the Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield/Storm), but had to remain in Biloxi Mississippi to operate the Blood Bank and Blood Dono...Expand for more
r Center. We were the first military facility to perfect creating Frozen Red Blood Cells. We left Biloxi and were transferred to the Island of Crete, Greece. From there we came to San Antonio, Texas in 1993. I retired from the USAF in October 1995, divorced in October 1996. I started attending college classes during this time and started a new career in Information Technology. May 1999 I completed an AA (Major: Business Administration) degree from St. Philip’s College. June 1999 I completed an AAS and Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education (Majors: Medical Laboratory Technology & Management Information Systems) degrees from Wayland Baptist University. June 2001 completed MBA (Management) from Wayland Baptist University. Completed the requirement for an MA in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University in December 2005, but graduation was in Mar 2006. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, she caused 20+ of my family members to temporarily relocate to San Antonio. Most of them lost everything; however, while here my oldest brother passed. We are sure that he knew he was sick but did not tell anyone of the problem. This caused me to do some serious soul searching because I lost parents, grandparents, several aunts, uncle, niece, several cousins, and two brothers. Most of them died relatively young. After working continuously for the last 30+ years, I decided that it was time to leave the workforce and to start trying to enjoy some of what life has to offer, other than working until you die. Workplace Retired from the workforce.
